ANZICS Registry Sepsis Initiative

A collaboration between Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) and Monash, The National Critical Care Research (NCCR) Collaboration, has allowed the development of increased ICU sepsis reporting.

In 2024, coinciding with World Sepsis Day, a National ICU Sepsis infographic was circulated to all Australian and New Zealand ICUs, highlighting the burden of sepsis admissions binationally. This was replicated in October using 2025 data and is planned to be an ongoing annual activity.

This year marks the next step in increased reporting with the development of site level sepsis reports that will be made available to all units with 50 or more annual sepsis admissions. Provided as a similar infographic, annual, site level data for each ICU will be sent to the relevant ICU Director and Nurse Unit Manager.

The aim is to provide quantitative feedback for sites on a critical and vulnerable population with site data that can be interpreted alongside the national sepsis infographic data.

As always, the ANZICS Registry seeks to be responsive to the needs of the community. The goal is support high quality care for our patients and all thoughts on how to use the valuable data collected at each site to improve this is greatly appreciated.
