New Study: Septic Shock Patients Still Face High Hospital Mortality
A new study led by the National Critical Care Research Collaboration (NCCR) has shed light on trends in mortality among critically ill adults with sepsis and septic shock across Australia and New Zealand.
Key Findings:
In-hospital mortality in adult intensive care patients admitted with sepsis has decreased significantly from 28% in 2000 to a nadir of 11% in 2020, this was independent of changes in case-mix.
The study also shows that although in-hospital mortality among adult ICU patients with sepsis in Australia and New Zealand have decreased, rates remain high for those with septic shock or on ventilators.
